Hello! Having spent 3, yes 3 summer seasons in Denali National Park, I have had the privilege of seeing ’her’ many times. Fabulous place on the ground and in the air! Say hello to Anchorage for me.🥰
And good to know which pronouns are appropriate for a mountain. 😉
We haven't spent much time in Anchorage proper. Met a friend for a beer when he was flying through. Our home base has been our friend's house, which is between Wasilla and Palmer. We have been taking satellite trips back and forth from there.
Cool! What was your role at the park? We were in the park when this comment came in--out of cell range, of course. A big landslide took out a section of road at Milepost 44, so the bus stops at 43 now. They are building a huge bridge over the unstable ground. It should be completed in 2027.
Jealous! Our flight-seeing was canceled due to weather. But I’m glad you got to see Denali especially because you described it so beautifully.
Also, perhaps the oxygen mask doesn’t fit because like nearly everything, they are designed to fit men. I’d wager other women have the same issue. (Read the book Invisible Women if you don’t have enough righteous indignation in your life.)
Haha! I don't think my life can handle more righteous indignation. 😂 I really do have a child-sized face/head, occasionally buying my hats in the children's department. Andy's noggin is XXL--we are quite a pair. If I don't stand in front of him in photos, it is even worse! Sorry your flight seeing got cancelled, but glad I could at least give you the play-by-play with words. 💜
It all depends on where we stand (or have stood), right? Learning that other people see and believe one way or another based on the perspective they have gained over their lifetime is so key. 💜
It was such a a treat, indeed. And I don't know how to refer to mountains. I actually had to stop and revise several times as I wrote this post because I'd reverted to gendering and didn't want to. Honestly, at times male felt right, and at other times there was a definite female vibe. Perhaps mountains are non-binary? 😊
Thanks, Mel. We are trying to do just that--taking a slower pace to wait out weather patterns, balanced with learning to enjoy gray and gloom. We have actually begun to enjoy, for instance, hanging the showerhead out Walter's window to take a hot shower in the wilderness on a cold, drizzly day. 😎
Wonderful and amazing! Thank you for sharing your experience. Denali is on my bucket list. I saw the Matterhorn last year (a much smaller peak at 14k, but it too is often shrouded by creating its own weather pattern. The Lord gifted me clear blue sky and the guide shared that we were seeing something very rare. I later learned even later that day clouds moved in and we were one of the few groups that month to see the peak. I’ll never forget the magnificent view and how small Zermatt appeared at her feet.
Now if only a solar flare would gift you with Northern Lights you’d be completing my Alaskan bucket list.

per-spec-tive: a particular attitude toward or way of regarding something; a point of view
Always love your perspectives... fulling defined. So happy you decided!
"a point of view" literally!

So glad you got to see her (him? what gender do we use to refer to mountains?)! What a treat.

I'm so happy for you, friend! Enjoy it all!

So happy you got to view the peak. Brave too! Not sure I could have taken that ride.
It was a little mind-over-matterish, for sure. 💜
